A Memorable Visit to Silpakorn University: Strengthening Academic Collaboration in Asia
Discover how a recent visit to Silpakorn University is paving the way for stronger academic collaboration, Asian youth development, and impactful international partnerships across Asia.
A Warm Welcome at Silpakorn University
Earlier this month (February 6th), as the chairman of the International Cooperating Office of the Asian Friendship Society (ICO AFS), I had the privilege of visiting Silpakorn University, one of Thailand’s most respected and popular institutions, renowned for its commitment to cultural heritage and academic excellence. From the moment we arrived, the Dean and distinguished professors greeted us with genuine warmth and hospitality, setting the tone for a meaningful exchange.
Bridging Ideas for Academic Collaboration
Our discussions quickly evolved into a dynamic exchange of ideas focused on strengthening academic collaboration and building a robust academic network in Asia. Together, we identified shared goals, from student exchanges and faculty visits to collaborative research addressing regional challenges.
This visit was not just about formal talks—it was about building trust and friendships that will serve as a strong foundation for future initiatives. In an increasingly interconnected world, these personal connections are as vital as institutional agreements.

Empowering Asian Youth Development
At the heart of our dialogue was a shared vision: empowering the next generation through greater opportunities. Expanding Asian youth development programs means more students gain cross-cultural experiences, build global competence, and return home with fresh ideas to transform their communities.
Silpakorn University’s vibrant community and diverse programs make it an ideal partner for fostering such growth. I am confident that together we can shape pathways that nurture talent and inspire young leaders across Asia.
A Step Forward for the ICO AFS Mission
This engagement aligns closely with the International Cooperation Office’s Asian Friendship Society (ICO AFS) agenda, which aims to expand sustainable partnerships, promote mutual understanding, and strengthen ties between universities across borders.
Our time at Silpakorn reinforced that we are on the right track. The faculty’s commitment and students’ enthusiasm reaffirmed my belief that education remains a powerful bridge-builder, connecting cultures and shaping a better future for all.
What Comes Next?
As we move forward, the focus will be on transforming our discussions into tangible actions:
✅ Launching new student exchange and scholarship programs
✅ Initiating joint research on pressing regional issues
✅ Organizing cultural immersion projects and language exchange opportunities
✅ Exploring funding collaborations with NGOs and government agencies to expand outreach
I am excited to see these ideas take shape and invite other universities and organizations to join us in this mission.
Why This Matters for the Region
Academic partnerships like this do more than benefit institutions—they strengthen communities, economies, and societies. A connected academic network in Asia drives innovation, shares solutions to common challenges, and creates lifelong friendships that transcend borders.
When we invest in young people through quality education and international exposure, we invest in peace, prosperity, and sustainable development.
Let’s Build Bridges Together
This visit to Silpakorn University was just one step, but it represents a leap forward in fostering international partnerships and regional cooperation. Together, we can open new doors for students, faculty, and researchers—one campus at a time.
To everyone who made this visit possible: thank you for your dedication, kindness, and vision. I look forward to returning soon and continuing this journey together.
