A Warm Welcome at Burapha University: Building Bridges for Academic Collaboration in Asia

A Memorable Visit: Hospitality and Insight

Earlier this month, I had the privilege of visiting  Burapha University, a visit that left me inspired and hopeful for the future of academic collaboration across Asia. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with genuine Thai warmth — a hospitality that extended beyond kind words to thoughtful discussions and unforgettable culinary delights.

A heartfelt thank you goes to the Dean and distinguished professors who generously shared their time, knowledge, and vision. They didn’t just welcome us into their lecture halls and meeting rooms but also offered a guided tour showcasing the university’s impressive infrastructure and vibrant student community.

Burapha University at a Glance

For those unfamiliar, Burapha University stands proudly among Thailand’s largest and most respected academic institutions. With 26 faculties, over 60,000 students, and 6,000 graduates each year, it serves as a beacon of Academic excellence and a hub for regional cooperation.

Walking through its modern classrooms, innovative research centers, and bustling campus life, I witnessed firsthand a thriving ecosystem that nurtures intellectual curiosity and international friendship.

Opening Doors: From Ideas to Action

While the warm welcome was unforgettable, the real highlight of our visit was the productive dialogue about future international partnerships and youth development initiatives.

One exciting milestone was Burapha University’s interest in joining the AFS network, a global platform that facilitates academic exchanges, joint research, and cross-cultural learning experiences. Such collaboration holds immense promise, not just for the institutions involved but for countless students who will benefit from exposure to diverse cultures and ideas.

Our discussions also touched on the ICO AFS Project for Asian Academia, which envisions an integrated hub for knowledge sharing and institutional partnerships. This project aims to empower Asian youth leaders, promote sustainable development, and foster a spirit of solidarity among universities across the region.

Fostering Asian Youth Leadership

One of my personal missions is to champion the development of young leaders in Asia. This visit reaffirmed my belief that international cooperation is key to equipping our youth with the skills, perspectives, and resilience they need to navigate an increasingly interconnected world.

By strengthening an academic network in Asia and beyond, we help shape a generation capable of tackling global challenges — from climate change and economic disparities to social innovation and peacebuilding.

Stronger Together: A Shared Vision

Both Burapha University and our organization share the same vision: that education must transcend borders. Together, we can lay the foundation for cross-border learning, collaborative research, and intercultural dialogue.

I am particularly excited about designing student exchange programs, leadership camps, and joint research projects that tackle pressing regional issues while cultivating a sense of Asian friendship and unity.

A Pleasant Surprise: Meeting an Esteemed Colleague

Another highlight of this journey was the chance to reconnect with  Prof. Andy Wijaya, the Dean of FIA Brawijaya University, Malang. Sharing ideas with him further enriched our visit and sparked fresh ideas for collaborative programs linking institutions in Thailand and Indonesia.

Looking Ahead: Expanding the Academic Network

As we move forward, expanding this network remains a top priority. Each new university, partner organization, and supporter adds value to our shared mission of building an Asia where youth can thrive, innovate, and lead with integrity.

To our friends and colleagues at Burapha University: thank you once again for your warm hospitality and your unwavering commitment to this vision. I am confident that our journey together has only just begun.
